Oil pastel is sometimes called painting and sometimes called drawing but either way it is a lot of fun! It is very different to work with than soft pastel because it really does have an oily feel to it and is not at all powdery like soft pastel so in some ways it is not quite as messy to work with. Students learn color theory first and how to blend colors with oil pastel and then they choose a project to work on from either a photo they have brought to class or one from my files here. Children love to work from the many animal photos I have and learn about texture and values while learning how to use this medium.
Oil pastel classes are usually open to ages 8 and up.
